Periodontal disease can be treated by the administration of metal ions, preferably silver ions, to the site where the microorganisms that cause this disease reside. Administration can be to periodontal pockets or adjacent to exposed tooth roots or alveolar bone during periodontal surgical procedures. The metal ions can be administered in polymeric microparticles, deformable films or microparticles embedded within deformable films. The metal ions are particularly microbiocidal to the bacterial pathogens that are the causative agents of periodontal disease.
Il est possible de soigner une parodontopathie par l'administration d'ions métalliques, et de préférence d'ions d'argent, dans les sites dans lesquels résident les microorganismes à l'origine de cette affection. Ces ions métalliques peuvent être administrés dans des poches parondotales ou des des sites adjacents des racines dentaires ou des os alvélolaires exposés, au cours d'interventions chirurgicales parondotales. Les ions métalliques peuvent être administrés dans des microparticules de polymère, des films déformables ou des microparticules encastrées dans ces derniers. Les ions métalliques sont particulièrement anti-microbiens pour les pathogènes bactériens qui sont les principaux agents responsables des parodontopathies.
