Human Immunodeficiency virus causes depletion of CD4 cells. The depletion of CD4 cells results in decrease in immunity of an infected individual. Due to decrease immunity various opportunistic infections occur. These infections are cause for morbidity and mortality in HIV infected individuals. The treatment of HIV these includes antiretroviral drugs. These drugs have their own side effects and immune reconstitution achieved is delayed and slow. Various attempts have been made to improve CD4 count, use of IL-2 is one of them. It is associated with systemic side effects during the period of its administration. The present invention provides method of using mycobacterium w for the management of HIV. According to present invention mycobacterium w when given intradermally is effective in prophylaxis and treatment of AIDS or AIDS related complex (ARC). It is found to improve immunity as well as CD4 count. It is found to eliminate symptoms like fever, diarrhea. The effect is seen even when no antiretrovirals are used.
Le virus de l'immunodéficience humaine entraîne la déplétion des cellules CD4, qui provoque à son tour une diminution de l'immunité chez un individu infecté. En raison de cette diminution de l'immunité, diverses infections opportunistes apparaissent qui sont un facteur de morbidité et de mortalité chez les individus infectés par le VIH. Le traitement du VIH fait appel à des médicaments antirétroviraux, lesquels médicaments possèdent des effets secondaires et permettent une reconstitution immunitaire qui est lente et différée. Plusieurs tentatives ont été faites pour améliorer la numération des CD4, notamment par l'utilisation de l'IL-2. L'utilisation de l'IL-2 est associée à des effets secondaires systémiques pendant la durée de son administration. La présente invention concerne un procédé selon lequel on utilise une mycobactérie w pour gérer le VIH. Selon la présente invention, la mycobactérie w administrée par voie intradermique est efficace dans la prophylaxie et le traitement du SIDA ou du syndrome apparenté au SIDA. Il a été découvert que la mycobactérie w améliore l'immunité et la numération des CD4 et élimine des symptômes tels que la fièvre et la diarrhée. Cet effet est observable même en l'absence de médicaments antirétroviraux.
