ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Water-soluble low molecular polycondensation products produced by condensation of acrolein and formaldehyde in a molar ratio between 1:1 and 1:10 in an aqueous or aqueous- organic medium in the presence of a basic catalyst are used as biocides for aqueous systems. The condensation reaction can also be carried out in the additional presence of water-soluble monohydric or polyhydric alcohols and/or acid amides.
