ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Salts of organic or inorganic acids with polyimide amines wherein the polyimide amines are obtained by reaction of copolymers of maleic acid anhydride and 2, 4, 4-trimethyl- 1-pentene with a mixture of a diamine having a tertiary and a primary amino group and ammonia or a primary monoamine and at least 80% of the anhydride groups having been converted into the corresponding imide groups are used as surface sizing agents for paper.
