The invention concerns the use as biocides of polymers which contain the following incorporated by polymerization: (a) between 0.1 and 100 mol % vinyl amine units or ethylene imine units; (b) between 0 and 99.9 mol % units of at least one monomer selected from the group comprising open-chain N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides, vinyl formiate, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl alcohol, C1 to C6 alkyl vinyl ether, monoethylenically unsaturated C3 to C8 carboxylic acids, their esters, nitriles, amides and anhydrides, N-vinyl urea, N-vinyl imidazoles and N-vinyl imidazolines; and (c) between 0 and 5 mol % units of monomers having at least two ethylenically unsaturated double bonds. The total of (a), (b) and (c) in mol % is always 100.

L'invention concerne l'emploi, comme biocides, de polymères contenant, incorporés par polymérisation, (a) entre 0,1 et 100 % en moles d'unités vinylamine ou d'unités éthylènimine; (b) entre 0 et 99 % en moles d'unités d'au moins un monomère choisi dans le groupe comprenant les amides d'acide N-vinylcarboxylique à chaîne ouverte, le formiate de vinyle, l'acétate de vinyle, le propionate de vinyle, l'alcool de vinyle, l'éther vinylique d'alkyle C1-C6, les acides carboxyliques C3 - C8 monoéthyléniquement insaturés, leurs esters, nitriles, amides, et anhydrides, la N-vinylurée, les N-vinylimidazoles et les N-vinylimidazolines; et (c) entre 0 et 5 % en moles d'unités de monomères présentant au moins deux doubles liaisons éthyléniquement insaturées. Le total de (a), (b) et (c) en % en moles est toujours égal à 100.
