The invention relates to polysaccharides such as polyglucans and chemically or enzymatically partially hydrolyzed starches that are substituted by quaternary ammonium groups, which are bound via linkers and have a degree of substitution ranging from 0.4 to 3Ø These polysaccharides are suited for use as anti- infective agents or for treating infectious diseases caused by viruses and bacteria.
