A method of enhancing amyloid precursor protein processing along a non- amyloidogenic pathway in patients suffering from, or at risk of developing, Alzheimer's disease and a method of treatment or prophylaxis of Alzheimer's disease by reducing .beta.A4 production in patients suffering from, or at risk of developing, Alzheimer's disease comprising administering to the patient an effective, non-toxic amount of an acetonitrile compound, use of the compound in preparation of a medicament for use in the method and a composition for use in the method.
On décrit un procédé d'activation du traitement de la protéine précurseur amyloïde, le long d'un trajet non amyloïdogénique, chez des patients souffrant de la maladie d'Alzheimer ou présentant un risque de développement de celle-ci, ainsi qu'une méthode de traitement ou de prophylaxie de la maladie d'Alzheimer visant à réduire la production de .beta.A4 chez des patients souffrant de la maladie d'Alzheimer ou présentant un risque de développement de celle-ci, et consistant à administrer à un patient une quantité efficace et non toxique d'un composé acétonitrile. On décrit également l'utilisation de ce composé dans la préparation d'un médicament, ainsi qu'une composition, lesquels sont utiles dans cette méthode de traitement.
