The invention relates to the use of rapamycin for preparing a composition for inhibiting organ or tissue transplant rejection in a mammal in need thereof, and comprising in association with an appropriate pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, rapamycin in an appropriate amount to be administrable to said mammal in a mammal rejection inhibiting amount. The invention also relates to a composition for inhibiting organ or tissue transplant rejection in a mammal in need thereof, comprising (a) an amount of rapamycin in combination with (b) an amount of one or more other chemotherapeutic agents for inhibiting transplant rejection, said amounts of (a) and (b) together being effective to inhibit transplant rejection and to maintain inhibition of transplant rejection. These compositions are of lower toxicity with respect to prior art composition for inhibiting organ or tissue transplant rejection.
