A method of use of a slow sand filter system with recycle is disclosed. The slow sand filter system is located under a body of water and has predetermined maximum vertical flow rate for water through the filter. The method comprises passing water through the slow sand filter system at a rate less than the maximum vertical flow rate, recycling a portion of said water passing through the slow sand filter system back to the body of water and removing the remainder of the water to another location. The method permits operation of the slow sand filter system to provide a variable supply of water without minimal disruption of the filter system.

Ce système de filtration lente sur sable est disposé sous une masse d'eau et présente, en ce qui a trait au passage de l'eau dans le filtre, un taux prédéterminé d'écoulement vertical. La méthode en question consiste à faire passer l'eau par ce système de filtration lente sur sable à un taux inférieur à celui du taux maximal d'écoulement vertical, à recycler une partie de l'eau passant par ce système de filtration lente sur sable en la réacheminant vers la masse d'eau et à diriger le reste de l'eau vers un autre emplacement. Cette méthode permet de faire fonctionner ce système de filtration lente sur sable de manière à fournir un apport d'eau variable sans la moindre interruption du système de filtration.
