ABSTRACT A method of preventing the blockage of writing instrument fluid outlets, and a marking fluid according to such method are provided, whereby a solid antiblocking additive is added to the solvent or solvent mixture of a marking fluid. The solid crystallizes at the fluid outlet forming a boundary which hinders evaporation of the writing fluid's solvent. The boundary formed is thin and soft such that upon recommencement of writing the boundary is broken and no reduction in writing quality results.
