The invention relates to thiadiazole compounds of the type (see fig. I) wherein R1, R2, R3 are - hydrogen - alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms - substituted alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms which are optionally substituted by halogen or an alkoxy, carboxyl, hydroxyl, or nitro group - CN, CF3, halogen or NO2, - COOR where R=H or alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms which, as a consequence of their properties, are extremely effective biocides having broad antifouling properties and are suitable for biocidal finishing of surfaces in contact with sea water and for protecting these surfaces against colonization by marine organisms. The compounds according to the invention are added to or copolymerized into the coatings which protect the surfaces, in 0.1 - 25% by weight, in particular 5-15%.

L'invention concerne des composés de type thiadiazole (voir fig. I) dans lesquels R1, R2, R3 sont : un atome d'hydrogène - groupes alkyle de 1 à 4 atomes de carbone - groupes alkyle substitués de 1 à 4 atomes de carbone qui sont facultativement substitués par un halogène ou un groupe alkoxy, carboxyle, hydroxyle ou nitro - CN, CF3, un halogène ou NO2, - COOR où R=H ou des groupes alkyle comptant 1 à 4 atomes de carbone qui, en raison de leurs propriétés, sont des biocides extrêmement efficaces ayant des caractéristiques antisalissure étendues et convenant à la finition biocide des surfaces en contact avec l'eau salée et à la protection de ces surfaces contre la colonisation par les organismes marins. Les composés issus de l'invention sont ajoutés dans les revêtements destinés à protéger ces surfaces ou sont copolymérisés avec ces derniers, dans une proportion de 0,1 à 25 % en poids, 5-15 % en particulier.
