The invention relates to a biocatalytic process for the oxidation of substituted polycyclic aromatic compounds to the corresponding carboxylic acids and related compounds. In a preferred embodiment the invention describes a method to produce 6-methyl-2-hydroxymethylnaphthalene, 6-methyl-2-naphthoic acid, 2,6-bis(hydroxymethyl)naphthalene and 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid from 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene. These compounds have been prepared by oxidizing 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene with a single recombinant microorganism containing the enzyme xylene monooxygenase.

Cette invention concerne un procédé biocatalytique utilisé pour oxyder des composés aromatiques polycycliques substitués donnant les acides carboxyliques correspondants et les composés s'y rapportant. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, cette invention porte sur un procédé de production de 6-méthyl-2-hydroxyméthylnaphtalène, d'acide 6-méthyl-2-naphtoique, de 2,6-bis(hydroxyméthyl)naphtalène et d'acide 2,6-naphtalènedicarboxylique à partir de 2,6-diméthylnaphtalène. Ces composés sont le résultat de l'oxydation de 2,6-diméthylnaphtalène avec un micro-organisme de recombinaison simple contenant l'enzyme xylène monooxygénase.
