An improved method of predictive keyboard inputting for a cellular telephone subscriber using an improved cellular telephone interface device, in which the interface device compares each of the subscriber's keystrokes to a database dictionary tree of text entries known to be likely inputs. The cellular telephone interface device selects the most likely matching entry, if any, from the database and displays the entry for the subscriber. The subscriber can choose the entry suggested by the cellular telephone interface device or continue entering characters.
