A method of analyzing cell wall components based on a hot dilute acid extraction, followed by alcohol precipitation, of plant cellulosic materials such as cotton fibers or wood pulp. The extracts are analyzed by high pH anion exchange chromatography to separate and characterize the carbohydrates. This method extracts a characteristic series of carbohydrate multimers containing galactose, mannose and glucose. The pattern of multimers is indicative of origin of the cellulosic material (<i>e.g.</i>, the plant species the material comes from) as well as quality and processing state of the material. The alcohol precipitation improves the discriminating powers of the analysis so that the species of origin of plant products can be identified.
L'invention concerne une méthode d'analyse de parois cellulaires, faisant intervenir une extraction à l'acide dilué chaud puis une précipitation par l'alcool de matières cellulosiques végétales, telles que des fibres de coton ou de la pulpe de bois. Les extraits obtenus sont analysés par chromatographie par échange d'anions à un pH élevé pour séparer et caractériser les hydrates de carbone. Cette méthode permet d'extraire une série de caractéristiques de multimères d'hydrate de carbone renfermant du galactose, du mannose et du glucose. La composition des multimères indique l'origine de la matière cellulosique (l'espèce végétale d'origine, par exemple) ainsi que la qualité et l'état de traitement de la matière. La précipitation par l'alcool permet d'améliorer les capacités de discrimination de l'analyse et ainsi d'identifier l'espèce végétale d'origine des produits végétaux.
