USING OXYGEN FOR LEACHING ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Metal bearing ore, such as gold ore or silver ore, is subjected to a leaching action utilizing a cyanide solution liquid containing a large amount of oxygen. The ore is slurried to form a liquid slurry (flocculating material and fibers may be added to lock the particlized ore in a stable network in the slurry) and is passed downwardly in a leaching reactor. The cyanide solution is deaerated, and then oxygen gas is introduced under pressure to the cyanide solution, and preferably is mixed into the solution utilizing an in-line mixer downstream of a pump, to essentially saturate the cyanide solution with oxygen. About 5-10 times the amount of oxygen can be provided in the liquid, in this manner, than if air were bubbled into the liquid. The cyanide solution is introduced into the bottom of the leaching reactor, and passes upwardly countercurrent to the slurry flow. The treated slurry is removed from the bottom portion of the vessel, and pregnant leaching liquid is continuously removed from the top of the vessel.
