Uteroglobin has been discovered to prevent IgA mediated diseases, such as IgA nephropathy, by preventing the deposition of IgA-Fibronectin immunocomplexes in tissues such as the renal glomeruli. The invention therefore includes methods of treating such diseases by administering therapeutically effective amounts of uteroglobin (and variants or mimetics) to prevent or improve the IgA mediated condition. Transgenic uteroglobin knockout animals, and animals in which uteroglobin-protein expression is reduced by antisense technology, also provide systems for studying IgA mediated diseases, and screening for appropriate treatments.
L'invention concerne l'utéroglobine qui sert à prévenir les maladies liées à l'IgA, par exemple la néphropathie IgA, en prévenant le dépôt d'immunocomplexes de fibronectine d'IgA dans des tissus tels que les glomérules rénaux. L'invention concerne ainsi des méthodes de traitement de ces maladies consistant à administrer des quantités thérapeutiquement efficaces d'utéroglobine (et de variantes ou mimétiques) afin de prévenir ou d'améliorer les états pathologiques liés à l'IgA. Les animaux transgéniques chez lesquels l'utéroglobine est inactivée, ainsi que les animaux chez lesquels l'expression de la protéine utéroglobine est réduite grâce à la technologie antisens, constituent également des moyens de recherche sur les maladies liées à l'IgA, et de criblage de traitements appropriés.
