A clip for gripping sheet material includes a generally "C" shaped portion having first and second arms connected by a bridge portion, the arms defining a central cavity between them. A block is provided for wedging the sheet material into the central cavity. The block is adopted to wedge the sheet material into the cavity upon application of a pulling force drawing the block into the "C" shaped portion. Due to the slightly wedge-shape of the block in the central cavity, an increase in the pulling force increases the grip of the clip on the sheet material.
