The present invention relates to a plant vacuole targeting sequence X1X2X3PX4 wherein X1 is a hydrophobic amino acid, X2 is a basic amino acid, X3 is a hydrophobic amino acid, P is proline; and X4 is a hydrophilic amino acid, such as the sequences IRLPS, IKLPS, LRLPS and LKLPS. The vacuole targeting sequence may be present in a chimeric protein linked to an amino acid sequence of a heterologous protein to facilitate vacuole vacuole targeting of the expressed chimeric protein in a plant cell. The invention is applicable to production of expressed, chimeric proteins in monocots and dicots, and in particular monocots such as cereals and sugarcane.

La présente invention concerne une séquence X1X2X3PX4 ciblant les vacuoles des plantes, X1 étant un acide aminé hydrophobe, X2 un acide aminé basique, X3 un acide aminé hydrophobe, P la proline et X4 un acide aminé hydrophile. Des exemples d~une telle séquence sont IRLPS, IKLPS, LRLPS et LKLPS. Ladite séquence peut être présente dans une protéine chimère liée à une séquence d~acides aminés d~une protéine hétérogène afin de faciliter le ciblage des vacuoles de la protéine chimère exprimée dans une cellule de plante. L~invention est applicable à la production de protéines chimères exprimées dans des mono- et des dicotylédones, en particulier des monocotylédones telles que les céréales et la canne à sucre.
