ABSTRACT A multi-function interlocking vacuum cleaner control switch is disclosed. The switch provides for both ON/OFF control as well as speed control, in a unified switch mechanism. Mechanical logic apparatus interfaces ON/OFF function with attachment of inlet accessories and/or of a collection bag to the vacuum cleaner. Whenever an accessory or a bag is attached to the cleaner, the main power switch, if ON, is turned OFF. Removal of an inlet accessory or a collection bag during vacuum cleaner operation overrides the main power switch and interrupts power to the vacuum cleaner rotor, irrespective of the state or condition of the main power switch.
