VACUUM MANIFOLD FOR EXTRACTION PROCESSING By George D. Wachob and Robert W. Rightnour Abstract of the Invention A vacuum manifold for use in simultaneous solid phase extraction of a plurality of liquid samples from reagent tubes employed as a vacuum chamber with a removable cover closing an access opening and capable of sealing vacuum tight thereto. A plurality of generally parallel flow paths are provided through the cover and include valve means for closing off and regulating flow of liquid samples into the vacuum chamber. Each of the valve means has a valve member which is rotatable about an axis generally parallel to the general direction of flow through the cover to permit flow adjustment and closing of the valve means. Means is also provided for attaching the vacuum chamber to a vacuum source to create a vacuum therein. In addition, an attachment is provided permitting the parallel treatment of materials in containers in the vacuum chamber or in reagent tubes with nitrogen or other gases. This includes a manifold plate with a valve and attachment to a source of gas and a plurality of valve control means axially aligned and coupled with the rotatable valve member and providing passage into the valve means directly or through the reagent tubes.
