A weight-actuated vacuum pump for a hypobarically--controlled artificial limb having a socket (60) with a cavity to receive a residual limb. A dual-action pump has a housing (210) fixedly attached to the socket (60) of the artificial limb, a cylinder (220) reciprocating within the housing (210) and attached to the pylon (54) of the artificial limb, a first chamber within the cylinder (220), a piston (260) reciprocat-ing within the first chamber, a second chamber between the cylinder and the housing (210), and valve means for connecting the first chamber and second chamber to the cavity and to atmosphere. A single-action pump has a housing fixedly attached to the pylon of the artificial limb with a first chamber therein, a piston (260) reciprocating in the first cham-ber with a seal, forming a second chamber between the piston and the housing, an intake/exhaust port connected to the second chamber, and one-way valves connecting the second chamber to the cavity and to at-mosphere. Ambulation causes the vacuum pump, under the influence of the wearer's body weight, to draw air out of the cavity, producing a vacuum within the cavity.
L'invention concerne une pompe à vide actionnée sous l'effet du poids et destinée à un membre artificiel à régulation hypobare comprenant une emboîture pourvue d'une cavité servant à recevoir la partie restante d'un membre. Une pompe à double effet comprend un boîtier fixé à l'emboîture de ce membre artificiel, un cylindre oscillant situé dans ce boîtier et fixé au quillon dudit membre artificiel, une première chambre logée dans ce cylindre, un piston oscillant se trouvant à l'intérieur de cette première chambre, une seconde chambre située entre le cylindre et le boîtier, et un organe de soupape destiné à relier la première chambre et la seconde chambre à la cavité et à l'atmosphère. Une pompe à simple effet comporte un boîtier fixé au quillon du membre artificiel, une première chambre définie dans ce boîtier, un piston oscillant logé dans cette première chambre et muni d'un joint d'étanchéité, une seconde chambre définie entre ce piston et ce boîtier, un orifice d'admission/évacuation communiquant avec la seconde chambre, et des soupapes anti-reflux reliant la seconde chambre à la cavité et à l'atmosphère. Une ambulation amène cette pompe à vide à expulser l'air hors de la cavité sous l'influence du poids de l'utilisateur, ce qui provoque une dépression à l'intérieur de la cavité en question.
