ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A flow control valve in which the flowpath extends from inlet to outlet ports of a valve housing via a passage formed through a tapered valve plug has an actuating system in which the valve plug is driven by an operating stem. The stem is directly coupled to the plug in its rotational direction and its rotation is limited by stop conformations in the valve housing. The stem, together with a compression spring, is trapped between a leakage control portion of the housing and the valve plug in the direction in which the plug must be urged to ensure seating.
