VALVE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A ball valve having cam operated seal springs to reduce seal pressure and thereby to reduce seal wear and operating torque. The cam is fixed relative to the ball. Auxillary springs keep the seal in pressure contact with the ball at all times to prevent particulates from becoming lodged between seal and ball. The smallest and largest seal pressures occur when the valve is open and closed, respectively, because the pressure drop across the seal is least and greatest in these instances, respectively, and very little seal pressure is required when the valve is open. - 1 -
