IMPROVED VALVE APPARATUS AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME Abstract of the Disclosure A valve apparatus is integrally molded from an elastomeric material so as to form a valve seating portion including a valve opening, a valve member and connective strands extending from the valve seating portion to the valve member. The valve member is initially molded on one side of the valve opening, and a portion of the valve member is passed through the opening to the other side thereof. The connective strands are stretched while passing a portion of the valve member through the opening so as to create a bias on the valve member which tends to seat the valve member on the other side of the opening. The valve apparatus is useful to close one end of a serum separator tube which is inserted into a serum collection tube. The stretched connective strands bias the valve member closed when the serum separator tube is stationary within the collection tube. Alternatively, the valve apparatus is useful when employed as a portion of a plug-like piston in a collection tube. The tube is placed on a centrifuge and the plug seeks the interface between the light phase and the heavy phase of the blood. In doing so, the plasma passes through the valve apparatus which closes after centrifugation has been com- pleted.
