ABSTRACT A valve assembly has a tapered valve body disposed within a tapered bore in a housing with a rotatable tapered valve member in a tapered bore in the valve body to control flow of a radioactive slurry through the housing. The valve body has a sealing liner on its outer wall sealing between the valve body and the housing and a sealing liner on its inner wall sealing between the valve body and the rotatable valve member. In one embodiment, the sealing liners are integral and mounted to the valve body. The valve body has a rib arrangement on its inner wall acting through the sealing liner to form pressure sealing areas with the rotatable valve member. The spaces between ribs form pressure relief areas. The rotatable valve member is rotated through rotation means by a remote actuator. The rotation means is disposed within an extension connected to the valve body. The extension means of the valve body is disposed within an extension secured to the housing. When the valve unit is to be replaced, a positive air flow is produced from an access opening to the actuator by a suction pump.
