"VALVE BOTTOM IN A FLUID EXCHANGE COLUMN" ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A valve bottom in a fluid exchange column for effecting intimate phase contact between a liquid and a gaseous or vaporous fluid stream comprises an array of adjacently arranged valve bodies of resilient material. Each valve body has a first, vertically extending leg and a second leg enclosing a dihedral angle with the first leg, and each valve body is pivotal between an open position and a rest position wherein the second leg assumes a horizontal position and adjacent horizontally extending second legs form a closed bottom. The first legs of the valve bodies are connected to a grid of holders. 0450K
