Abstract In a valve for controlling the flow of pressurised fluid having a piston (4) and a valve seat (3), the piston (4) rests, in the closed position, with a front face (17) against a front face (18) of the valve seat (3). When a pressurised fluid is supplied to the valve inlet, a leakage flow occurs between the front faces (17, 18). At the same time, the pressurised fluid acts upon a portion of the piston surface (21) facing away from the front face (17) of the piston (4). In order to permit reliable opening or closing of the valve, while having a simple design, it is ensured that an insert (19) that is deformable, by supplying a physical parameter, in such a manner that the gap between the front faces (17, 18) is enlarged is arranged in one of the front faces (17, 18) of the valve seat (3) and the piston (4), and that a spring (16) is provided that presses against the piston (4) in the direction towards the closed position.
