ABSTRACT A valve for volatile liquids, particularly an expansion valve for refri- geration plants, comprises a closure member (2) with which a throttle point (17) can be blocked. A damping apparatus comprises a substantially cylindrical damping chamber (24), a compressor piston (22) engaged therein and connected to the closure member (20) and at least one throttle passage (23) between the inlet side (18) of the valve and the damping chamber (24). The damping chamber (24) is associated with cooling apparatus (29) which is downstream of the throttle point (17) and in which part of the liquid vaporises. The cooling apparatus is formed in particular by a cooling chamber (29) adjacent to the damping chamber (24). In this way, evaporation Or the liquid is prevented in the damping chamber and good damping is ensured at all times. Fig. 1.
