ABSTRACT A valve lock for valves wherein the valve stem (37) is coupled to a valve actuator shaft (15) and there is a spacing between the valve and valve actuator. A locking member (40 or 50) is slidably receivable in the spacing and fixed against rotation so that a locking slot (42) in the locking member engages a locking segment of the interconnected valve stem and valve actuator shaft. The locking member, in turn, can be releasably locked to prevent unauthorized or unintended use of the valve.
