A valve operating apparatus for an internal combustion engine including: a housing (2); a reciprocating piston (1) residing wholly within the housing (2), the reciprocating piston (1) driving one or more poppet valves (7); a first fluid supply path and a first fluid drain path, each path being controllable to supply or drain fluid to/from a first reciprocating piston end (16); a second fluid supply path and a second fluid drain path, each path being controllable to supply or drain fluid to/from a second reciprocating piston end (17); wherein said reciprocating piston (1), in use, is driven between a first position and a second position by controlling said fluid in said supply and drain paths, thereby operating said one or more poppet valves (7), and wherein a connector (9) passes through an aperture (14) in said housing (2) to connect said reciprocating piston (1) to said one or more poppet valves (7), said reciprocating piston (1) in co-operation with an internal wall of the housing forming a seal to prevent substantial egress of fluid from the housing (2) through said aperture (14).

L'invention concerne une distribution pour moteur à combustion interne, qui comprend: un boîtier (2); un piston alternatif (1) entièrement logé dans le boîtier (2) et entraînant un ou plusieurs clapets (7); un premier circuit d'alimentation en fluide et un premier circuit de vidange du fluide, chaque circuit étant réglable pour apporter un fluide à ou vidanger un fluide d'une première extrémité (16) du piston alternatif; un second circuit d'alimentation en fluide et un second circuit de vidange du fluide, chaque circuit étant réglable pour apporter un fluide à ou vidanger un fluide d'une seconde extrémité (17) du piston alternatif. Pendant l'utilisation, le piston alternatif (1) est entraîné entre une première position et une seconde position par régulation du fluide dans les circuits d'alimentation et de vidange, ce qui permet de manoeuvrer le(s) clapet(s) (7). Un connecteur (9) traverse une ouverture (14) ménagée dans le boîtier (2) pour raccorder le piston alternatif (1) au(x) clapet(s) (7). Le piston alternatif (1) coopère avec une paroi interne du boîtier pour former un joint d'étanchéité pouvant empêcher sensiblement une sortie du fluide du boîtier (2) par ladite ouverture (14).
