Abstract The refractory valve plate (22) for a sliding gate valve (20) on a vessel (10) containing metal melt has a refractory plate (31) with a recess on its side directed away from the sliding surface (22') which broadens the flow opening (25) and in which a highly refractory insert (30) is embedded which, together with the adjoining plate (31), defines a gap (32) which communicates with the flow opening (25) and which serves for the injection of gas. This gap (32) is preferably formed as a free clearance in which the insert (30) rests directly on the refractory plate (31). An annular gas chamber surrounding the gap (32) is coupled to a gas connection (33). The gas can thus be blown constantly or impulsively into the flow opening (25) of the sliding gate valve (20), particularly in its closed position, and freezing of the steel melt situated therein may thus be successfully prevented. The result of this valve plate (22) in accordance with the invention is that optimal gas injection is achieved with very simple manufacture and with a high service life. (Fig. 1)
