VALVE SEAT CONCENTRICITY GAGE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A gage is disclosed which produces air flow signals corresponding to the eccentricity existing between the centerline of the valve stem hole and the valve seat, the eccentricity reading being unaffected by out-of-round, out-of-square or irregular surface finish conditions. The gage includes an arbor centered within the stem hole and an air spindle member having an internal passage through which the arbor extends, the air spindle having a partially spherical surface formed thereon located to contact the valve seat. A pair of opposed orifices exiting into the internal passage are located at axial points even with the theoretical center of the partially spherical air spindle surface and combined with an appropriate air pressure source and readouts such that the total flow out of each orifice can be measured and a corresponding readout obtained, the orifice locations being such that out-of-square conditions do not affect eccentricity readings and the centering characteristics of the spherical surfaces removing the effects of out-of-round and localized valve seat surface variations. A valve seat surface condition gaging arrangement is also included in the combination consisting of a ball jet type air gaging arrangement carried by the air spindle comprising a ball recessed within an opening and located so as to allow content of the ball with the valve seat. Rotation of the air spindle with respect to the valve stem accordingly gives an indication of the eccentricity of the valve seat with respect to the valve stem and also indicates localized variations in the surface condition of the valve seat, both of which conditions are uninfluenced by out-of-square conditions between the stem hole and the valve seat.
