This application discloses apparatus for logging the operation of a valve (10) of the type having a spindle (16) rotatable by a key (20) to effect opening and closing thereof, the apparatus including operative means (36) which are in use carried on a key (20), the operative means being operable independently of any other apparatus or electronic equipment to detect rotary motion of the key during operation of the valve. Preferably, the operative means includes sensor means (40, 42) sensitive to the earth's magnetic field, and is operative to determine rotation of the key by analysis of signals generated by the sensor means. By detecting valve operation with operative means on a key, the expense of providing detection apparatus for each valve is avoided (the total number of keys being much less than the total number of valves), as is the need to provide potentially delicate equipment in the hostile environs of the valves.

On décrit un dispositif destiné à enregistrer le fonctionnement d'une vanne (10) du type possédant un axe (16) que l'on peut tourner à l'aide d'une clé (20), afin d'ouvrir et de fermer la vanne, ce dispositif comprenant des moyens opérations (36) qui, lors de son utilisation, sont portés par la clé (20) et peuvent fonctionner indépendamment de tout autre dispositif ou appareil électronique, afin de détecter le mouvement rotatif de la clé, lors du fonctionnement de la vanne. De préférence, ces moyens opérants comprennent des capteurs (40, 42) sensibles au champ magnétique de la terre, et ils ont pour fonction de déterminer la rotation de la clé, par analyse des signaux produits par les capteurs. Grâce à cette détection des mouvements de la vanne à l'aide de moyens opérants placés sur une clé, on évite la dépense d'un dispositif de détection pour chaque vanne (le nombre total de clés étant bien inférieur au nombre total de vannes), de même que l'installation d'un matériel potentiellement fragile dans le milieu hostile dans lequel ces vannes foncionnent.
