A method and apparatus is disclosed for sensing hydrocarbon in the vapor path of fuel dispensers using a fiber-optic sensor. The sensor includes an absorber- expander sensing structure mechanically coupled to the fiber body and responsive to the presence of effluent fuel components. The system includes fuel dispensing system (14) in operative association with a fiber optic sensor apparatus (10), a vapor pump (26), and a controller (26) for operating the vapor pump (26) responsive to the sensor apparatus (10).

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant de capter un hydrocarbure dans le chemin de vapeur de distributeurs de carburant, au moyen d'un capteur à fibre optique. Ce capteur comprend une structure de détection d'absorption-d'expansion mécaniquement couplée au corps de fibre, et sensible à la présence de composants de carburant effluent. Ce système comprend un système de distribution (14) de carburant fonctionnellement associé à un système de détection (10) à fibre optique, une pompe à vapeur (26), et une unité de commande (26) afin de faire fonctionner la pompe à vapeur (26) sensible au capteur (10).
