The invention relates to an adjustable mechanical means of changing the connective relationship between the sprockets of a chain-driven device (tricycle, bicycle, or other multiwheeled conveyance). By a simple adjustment of screws, the relationship may be freewheel, as found in multispeed bicycles. By the same token, a further adjustment may be readily effected so as to render a solid connection between the pedal operation and the drive portion. As well, an infinite gradation between freewheeling and solid drive can be effected. The availability of having solid, freewheel, and an infinite linkage variation between these two extremes is provided by adjusting screws. In the preferred embodiment, the adjusting screws are made of a material softer than the outer freewheel member to which they may attain a frictional connection. Use of the outer portion of the freewheel member adjacent to the chain allows stronger coupling of the freewheel without requiring undue tightening of the screws. The screws themselves are threaded into a plate welded or otherwise fixed to the central portion of the freewheel which in turn is securely attached to either an axle, crank shaft, or the drive wheel itself.
