Un tel rouleau a un organe externe de forme cylindrique, par exemple de fonte aciérée, tournant autour d'un organe interne fixe qui a des alésages transversaux contenant des organes de positionnement. Ces organes sont formés d'une matière qui se dilate facilement par chauffage et ils contiennent des éléments chauffants. La plus ou moins grande dilata- tion des éléments provoque l'appui plus ou moins impor- tant des patins contre la surface du rouleau externe et en conséquence l'application de forces plus ou moins grandes qui règlent le bombé du rouleau externe. Ces rouleaux servent aux lisses, calandres, laminoirs, presses, machines d'impression.
