To reduce its switching time, the delay device (Dx) comprises a coupler (C) and a multiplexer (M) having n inputs (B1 - Bn) calibrated respectively on n separate wavelengths (.lambda.1 - .lambda.n). Inputs (B2 - Bn) from the multiplexer (M) are coupled respectively to outputs (A2 - An) from the coupler (C) through wavelength conversion devices (K2, Ki, Kn) and delay lines (L2, Li, Ln) that are all different. Each conversion device (Ki) has an amplifying optical gate function (G) and provides the corresponding input (Bi) of the multiplexer (M) with a wave carried by the wavelength (.lambda.i) associated with this input (Bi). The invention also concerns a channel synchronization device for a wavelength-division multiplexer using a variable delay device. Application in particular to the synchronization of optical packets in a switched optical network.

Afin de réduire son temps de commutation, le dispositif à retard (Dx) comprend un coupleur (C) et un multiplexeur (M) comportant n entrées (B1-Bn) calées respectivement sur n longueurs d'onde (.lambda.1-.lambda.n) distinctes. Des entrées (B2-Bn) du multiplexeur (M) sont couplées respectivement à des sorties (A2-An) du coupleur (C) par l'intermédiaire de dispositifs de conversion de longueur d'onde (K2, Ki, Kn) et de lignes à retard (L2, Li, Ln) toutes différentes. Chaque dispositif de conversion (Ki) possède une fonction de porte optique amplificatrice (G) et fournit à l'entrée correspondante (Bi) du multiplexeur (M) une onde portée par la longueur d'onde (.lambda.i) associée à cette entrée (Bi). L'invention concerne également un dispositif de synchronisation de canaux d'un multiplex de longueurs d'onde utilisant le dispositif à retard variable. Application notamment à la synchronisation de paquets optiques dans un réseau optique commuté.
