-13- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In an optical line tracer of the circular scan- ning type, it is advantageous to have different scanning diameters depending on the velocity of tracing and other factors. The present invention provides for continually adjustable scanning diameter by adjusting the angle of a reflecting mirror type scanner. In normal operation, the mirror of the scanner is rotated about an axis which is at a small angle relative to a perpendicular to the mirror. This causes light impinging on the mirror to describe a circular path as the mirror is rotated on the axis. By providing a continual adjustment of the angle of the mirror, the diameter of the circle described by the reflected light can be adjusted.
