A variable length ureteral stent assembly (10). A central catheter tube (11) forms a ureter stent with a retention structure (16, 17) for anchoring the stent in the ureter particularly within the bladder and kidney. The catheter tube is formed of a shape memory material and at least one of the retention structures includes an end portion of the catheter wrapped spirally into a multiple-turn planar coil having an axis that is transverse to the plane of the structure. The retention structure can then be partially unwound while still providing an anchoring function. Partially unwinding increases the length of an intermediate section of the ureteral stent.

La présente invention concerne un ensemble extenseur urétéral (10) de longueur variable. En l'occurrence, un tube cathéter central (11) servant d'extenseur urétéral est pourvu d'une structure de blocage (16, 17) permettant d'ancrer l'extenseur dans l'uretère, et plus particulièrement à l'intérieur de la vessie et du rein. Le tube cathéter est réalisé dans un matériau à mémoire de forme. L'une au moins des structures de blocage inclut une extrémité du cathéter. Cette extrémité se spirale en bobine plane de plusieurs tours, l'axe de bobine plane se présentant transversalement par rapport au plan de la structure. La structure de blocage, même partiellement déroulée, est capable de continuer à remplir sa fonction de blocage. Ce déroulement partiel accroît la longueur d'un segment intermédiaire de l'extenseur urétéral.
