ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a variable light transmissive electro-optical device comprising an optical lens coated with a layer of solid persistent electrochromic material and an ion-conducting layer in contact with a pair of electrodes and a dc voltage source. The light absorption of the electrochromic material can be varied by application of an electrical field whereby the light transmitted through the optical lens can be regulated.
