A gas generator (10) utilizes at least three segregated propellant container/combustion chambers (22, 32 and 34), each having a plurality of nonazide propellant grains (20, 36 and 38) therein, and an igniter (16) for igniting only the propellant grains (20) located within the first combustion chamber (22). The nonazide propellant produces enough heat energy to subsequently ignite the segregated propellant grains (36 and 38) by forced convection and/or heat conduction. The output inflation profile can be tailored to optimally cover a range of 10 to 90 percentile vehicle occupants.
Un générateur de gaz (10) utilise au moins trois chambres séparées, de combustion ou contenant l'agent propulseur (22, 32 et 34), chacune contenant plusieurs pastilles d'agent propulseur non-azide (20, 36 et 38), et un élément d'amorçage (16) pour amorcer seulement les pastilles d'agent propulseur (20) qui se trouvent dans la première chambre de combustion (22). L'agent propulseur non-azide produit assez d'énergie thermique pour amorcer ensuite les pastilles séparées d'agent propulseur (36 et 38) par convection forcée et/ou conduction thermique. Le profil de gonflage obtenu peut être ajusté pour couvrir de manière optimale un intervalle de 10 à 90 percentiles d'occupants du véhicule.
