- 1 - ABSTRACT: The present invention is directed to a manual control system to change the pitch of an aircraft type propeller in which each propeller blade is mated at its base allowing pivoting, with a shaft connected to the propeller drive pulley. The end of the blade root sleeve carries a pinion which is meshed with a rack which in turn slides in a groove in the hub which is parallel to the sense of rotation of the propeller. The rack assemblies corresponding to the propeller blades being secured to a plate which is fixed to one end of a shaft axially mounted in the hub, and to the pulley. The opposite end of this shaft being externally threaded. The control assembly here comprising the said shaft, the said plate and the racks which can slide axially, but are secured rotationally in relation to the hub. A control bearing is mounted on the threaded end of the shaft but it can only move by the action of a control rod or some other device, operated remotely by the pilot. This is internally threaded and mated with the treaded end of the shaft. Rotation of the control rod rotates the said bearing and so an axial movement of the assembly results. Following this, the racks slide in their grooves and a simultaneous rotation of the blades of the propeller occurs in a direction, and to an angle corresponding to the direction and angle of the movement of the control rod. The control system of the present invention is suitable for use with light, ultra and micro-light aircraft.
