VARIABLE RELUCTANCE PRESSURE TRANSDUCER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A variable reluctance pressure transducer including an improved coil (24) having a substantially solid core base (28), a core post (30) projecting upwardly from the center of the base, electrical conducting wire (32) wrapped around the post in a plurality of windings each substantially parallel to and directly above the solid portion of the base, and an outer core rim (34) substantially surrounding the posts and the windings. The windings on such coil are sufficiently self-shielded by the core structure so the transducer housing need not function as a shield. The improved coil construction also provides a more stable core geometry. The invention also includes an improved pressure transducer in which the transducer housing is bored (52) to receive a replaceable coil assembly including an elongated plug (50) selectively engageable with the walls of the bore hole, the plug having a head portion (58) adapted to receive and support the improved coil (24).
