According to a variable resistor circuit of the present invention, since a control voltage amplifier, which amplifies an input control voltage and is composed of one or more transistors, and a first transistor used as a resistor, which has a control electrode supplied with the control voltage amplified by the control voltage amplifier and is set such that the value of a resistance between first and second electrodes thereof is varied according to the supplied control voltage, are provided, a variable resistor circuit capable of compensating for product variations in characteristic of the first transistor used as the resistor and a variation in temperature of the first transistor can be materialized. According to a variable attenuator circuit of the present invention, since a signal input terminal, a signal output terminal and one or a plurality of attenuation resistances series-connected to a signal line between these signal input and output terminals and whose at least one ends are electrically connected to second electrodes of first transistors, are provided in addition to the configuration of the variable resistor circuit according to the present invention, a variable attenuator circuit can be materialized which is capable of reducing a variation in characteristic due to variations in product and a variation in temperature. According to a variable gain amplifier of the present invention, since a variable attenuator according to the present invention and an amplifier provided at a stage preceding a signal input terminal of the variable attenuator for amplifying an ac signal, are provided, a variation in characteristic due to variations in product and a variation in temperature can be reduced or a desired smooth variable gain characteristic can be achieved.
