ABSTRACT A method is provided for controlling thrombogeni- city of a vascular graft prosthesis by controlling the surface charge of at least the intimal surface of the pros- thesis by reaction with a compound selected from the group consisiting of albumin, succinic anhydride, glyoxals, ethoxy- formic anhydride, formic acid, and 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl- aminopropyl) carbodiimide. The surface charge is then stabi- lized by treatment with glutaraldehyde, dialdehyde starch, or formalin.
