The intravascular snare is formed with a central shaft (50) which is attached to the proximal ends of a plurality of loops (32, 34, 36). The loops are connected together at joinder points (18, 20, 22) spaced from both the distal and proximal ends of the loops to maintain the relative geometry of the loops in both an expanded and compressed condition. The loops include a material which provides radiopacity.
