This invention relates to peptides capable of inducing antibodies which neutralize the activity of VIP vasoactive intestinal peptide ("VIP"). In particular, this invention relates to a Nucleotide sequence which encodes a recombinant protein comprising (1) at least one peptide derived from vasoactive intestinal peptide or a cross-reactive protein and optionally (2) a carrier molecule, said recombinant protein being capable of producing antibodies which neutralize vasoactive intestinal peptide in vivo. This invention also relates to tandemly repeated peptides derived from VIP or from cross-reactive peptides, which can elicit a broad immune response. The present invention is useful for increasing egg production in bird species and for increasing efficiency of feed utilization and rate of gain in food producing animals.

Peptides capables d'induire des anticorps qui neutralisent l'activité du peptide intestinal vasoactif (VIP). La présente invention concerne en particulier une séquence nucléotidique qui code une protéine de recombinaison comportant (1) au moins un peptide dérivé d'un peptide intestinal vasoactif ou d'une protéine à réaction croisée et éventuellement (2) une molécule porteuse, ladite protéine de recombinaison étant capable de produire des anticorps qui neutralisent le peptide intestinal vasoactif in vivo. La présente invention concerne en outre des peptides à répétition en tandem dérivés du VIP ou de peptides à réaction croisée, qui peuvent provoquer une large réponse immunitaire. Elle est utile pour augmenter la production des oeufs chez des espèces aviaires et pour augmenter l'efficacité de l'absorption des aliments et la vitesse de prise de poids d'animaux à viande.
