This invention provides an apparatus and method for length grading of generally round and elongated vegetables, such as potatoes. This invention comprises a feeder assembly, a grader section, a means for advancing the product through the grading section, and a means for collecting the graded products. The grading section has one or more segmented rollers aligned with the direction of product flow. The segmented roller has one or more regions along its length where its outer diameter is substantially reduced, said regions defining product length grading spaces between the segmented roller and an adjacent roller or railing structure.
