ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A proportioning valve for a vehicle hydraulic brake system has a lock out mechanism whereby the valve may be selectively rendered inoperative for given vehicle load con- ditions. The valve has a piston responsive to hydraulic pres- sure, for operating the valve, a rotatable cam having a cam profile communicating with the piston, a rotatable shaft and a coupling between the cam and the shaft whereby rotation of the shaft, in response to vehicle load conditions, effects rotation of the cam, the cam profile being configured to impede movement of the piston when the cam is rotated to a given angular position, thereby locking the valve in an in- operative configuration.
