The invention comprises a method of locating a vehicle, comprising: a) placing or installing a beacon device in the vehicle, the beacon device being capable of short range wireless communication, according to preset parameters; b) a locator device detecting the presence of the beacon device via wireless communication technology ; c) the locator device establishing its initial location; d) the locator device updating its current location for as long as the locator device remains in communication range of the beacon device; e) the locator device denoting the last updated location waypoint on the locator device upon the locator device ceasing to detect the existence of the beacon device (moving out of short range wireless communication range) as the approximate location of the parked vehicle.
